BBL Tuesday, September 25th: Lee Hower (M&T ’00)

The second BBL of the semester will be Tuesday, September 25th from 12-1PM on the 3rd Floor of M&T Office. If you couldn’t join us the first time, or if you just want a chance to get some free lunch (Cosi) and chat with a successful entrepreneur, we hope you can join us on Tuesday.

Mr. Lee Hower is a Co-Founder and General Partner at NextView Ventures. Mr. Hower co-founded NextView Ventures in 2010. Previously, he served Point Judith Capital as a Venture Partner and joined in 2005 and helped build up the Internet investing practice. Mr. Hower is Mentor of Betaspring. He sourced or led investments in Multiply, FanIQ, Music Nation, and Sittercity. Prior to this, Mr. Hower co-founded LinkedIn, being a part of the founding team and served as the Director of Corporate Development from the companies inception to its early growth stgae. He also served as a Consultant on corporate development matters at Epoch Innovations. He served as Director, Financial Services at PayPal, Inc. Mr. Hower began his career as an early employee of PayPal, initially as a product manager and then eventually in a business development role. He has specialized in building and investing in early stage Internet businesses. Mr. Hower is an Advisor and Director at Multiply, Inc and a Board Observer of FanIQ and SkyVu, Inc. He is an advisor to Swipely and Athleague and an angel investor in oneforty. He was selected as Wharton’s Commencement Speaker. Mr. Hower attended the Fisher Program in Management and Technology at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a B.A.S. from the School of Engineering and a B.S. from the Wharton School.

Speaker: Noah Ready-Campbell is the co-founder and CEO of Twice (www.liketwice.com), the web’s first concierge-style clothing marketplace. Customers send in clothing, and Twice professionally photographs and lists the items for sale. Noah graduated from the M&T program at Penn in 2010, with a BSE and MSE in Computer Science, and a BS from Wharton. After graduating he worked as an Associate Product Manager at Google, before quitting to found Twice.

Student Startup Panel, Friday March 30th

Come listen to 5-6 current M&Ts and one M&T grad from last year, Wilson Pulling, talk about their experiences pursuing entrepreneurial ventures at Penn. *Alpesh Chokshi is President of the Global Prepaid business. In this role, Mr. Chokshi is responsible for all prepaid products, and is leading the reinvention of the prepaid business, including the Company’s expansion into international markets.

Global Prepaid includes the American Express Gift Card and the 118 year-old American Express Travelers Cheque, the world’s oldest and most popular prepaid product.  In 2008, the Gift Card franchise continued its successful growth trajectory, with record sales in excess of $1 billion. American Express is the world’s largest issuer of universal prepaid gift cards.

As a member of the American Express Global Management Team, Mr. Chokshi plays an active role in shaping the Company’s overall strategic direction.  Prior to joining Global Prepaid, he led The Strategic Planning and Business Development Group for the Company.

Before coming to American Express, he spent eight years as a senior partner at the Mitchell Madison Group, a strategy consulting firm that he co-founded.

He received his MBA from the Wharton School, and received dual undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

We have a BBL planned for February 7th at 12 pm in the M&T Office with Beeneet Kothari.

Beeneet Kothari (M&T ’04) is a managing director at PointState Capital. After graduating from Penn, he began his finance career at Morgan Stanley and then became a portfolio manager with hedge fund firm Duquesne Capital Management in 2005. In 2010, Duquesne closed, and its alumni opened PointState Capital, the second-largest hedge-fund startup ever with roughly $5 billion in assets. Beeneet is the firm’s youngest portfolio manager and runs a few hundred million dollars, focused on tech stocks.

Women’s Event this Wednesday!

We will be hosting an alumnus speaker event on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8th in JMHH 270. The guest speaker is Suzanne Garber, who is the COO of International SOS Assistance, which is the world’s leading international healthcare, medical assistance, and security services company, who is an alumnus of the Engineering School, and she will be speaking to us about her experience working at the International SOS. It is a great opportunity to learn about unique career opportunities and what the possibilities are with an engineering degree, as well as hear her about her experiences as a woman in the corporate world.
