Come have Free Greek Lady with Mike Turner this Wednesday! RSVP HERE.

Mike Turner is an Executive Vice President for Mars & Co. out of Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from the M&T program in 1990.  The firm was founded by an ex-BCG consultant who thought a consulting firm should guarantee its exclusivity and fidelity to its clients, instead of taking on multiple clients within the same industry.  The company hires mostly engineers, though they have their share of Economics and Business majors as well.  The employees do deep analytical work to make recommendations based on precise, quantitative analysis.  Mars & Co. has about 40 clients, many of which can be found in the Fortune 100.

Professional Development Events

Hey M&Ts,

We just wanted to be sure that everyone knew about three professional development opportunities coming up this week and this semester.

Career Dinner – SAVE THE DATE! Friday, October 21st, New York City

Trading Simulation 3-5pm, Friday, September 30th in JMHH F45

We are trying something new this year: an M&T Trading Simulation! Come out and show off your trading skills and win bragging rights to having beat the smartest kids on campus. This is a great way for freshmen and sophomores to learn about trading. Oh yeah, have we mentioned we have prizes? Two $10CampusFood Gift Cards are at stake. Everyone who participates will enjoy free pizza and drinks. RSVP HERE!

The rules are simple. The competition will take place in pairs. One partner will be the market maker who offers bids and ask prices to traders on an uncertain item. The other partner is a trader who makes trades with market makers from other teams at the quoted price. Every five minutes, new information about the item is released allowing the players to better estimate the items value. Once the game ends everyone’s trades are recorded and the team with the highest gross profit wins.

Ryan Sheftel of Credit Suisse on High Frequency Trading, 6pm, Wednesday, September 28th in JMHH250

You’re invited to attend a Credit Suisse information session on September 28, specifically designed for M&T students only — freshman, sophomores and juniors are welcome to attend.  Event details and registration info are below.  Kindly register by 9/26. Please click here to register.

“In lieu of resume you may upload a blank document. For GPA, indicate N/A if it’s available or indicate a 5.0 GPA, which does not exist at Penn.  We will realize that as a first semester freshman, your GPA is not available yet.

As a freshman, students are ineligible to apply for any opportunities, so please don’t worry about the information you provide in the RSVP form. We really just want as many M&T students to attend this informative session with M&T alumnus Ryan Sheftel!”

Ryan Sheftel, Director, M&T Class of 1995 (Finance and Systems Engineering)

Global Head of Electronic Market Making for Rates, and Head of eCommerce for Credit Suisse Americas.  In this capacity he is responsible for the global electronic market making trading business and the customer facing franchise including the Credit Suisse Onyx platform.

Hey M&Ts,

While you are enjoying your Valentine’s Day Artisserie Chocolate Café (Not Naked Chocolate. Thanks for the astute correction, Diego.) please read about the following Ryzing and Spot Trading corporate events and the upcoming BBL with Sarah Dong.

Do not forget to bring copies of your RESUME to the Ryzing & Spot Trading  events!

Ryzing, TOMORROW, 2/15, 6-7pm, JMHH F70

Ryzing is a social gaming company with the highest rated real prize sweepstakes based bingo game on Facebook.  We are led by Manu Gambhir, an M&T Grad and serial gaming entrepreneur.  Ryzing is out of the 76 Capital portfolio (Publishers of the Dexter iPhone Game and co founders of Artists & Instigators with Marc Ecko).

We are looking for individuals interested in Venture Capital, Gaming, Probabilities, Micro transactions, Predictive Analytics, Entrepreneurship, technology, mobile applications, Facebook, engagement marketing, software engineering and getting exposure to a team who have successfully exited companies before.

This is not your typical internship and we will be relying heavily on your skills, intuition, and dedication to achieving optimal results. You do not need to have all of the skills above, but if you enjoy a challenge and want to get exposure to the life of a fully funded technology start up, Ryzing can provide that exposure.  We are looking for innovative minds to join our team.  We are not trying to accommodate a resume build, nor hand hold you through creating intensive and robust excel models.  We are not trying to have a coffee fetcher or a twiddle my thumbs and tuck myself away in the corner type.

You want to work hard, learn about a rapidly growing industry, and make strong connections in the mid-atlantic entrepreneurship/investment community, then show up and see what this is about.

Min Spring Hours: 10 per week.

Min Summer Hours: 20 per week

Opportunities are open now for the right candidate. Show your interest if you want on board.

Spot Trading, Thursday, 2/17, 6-7pm, JMHH G65

Spot Trading is a proprietary trading firm specializing in Equity Options. We are located in Chicago and have roughly 140 employees.

We target students with a quantitative and analytic background and found that the students in the Jerome Fisher program that we spoke to are ideal candidates for our trading desk.

Brown Bag Lunch with Sarah Dong, Wednesday, 2/23, 12:00 PM, M&T Office

Sarah Dong is a 2nd year MBA / MSE student at Wharton and the University of Pennsylvania’s Engineering School. Prior to Wharton, Sarah was a Vice President at Bank Hapoalim’s Special Situations Group, where she advised clients on de-risking loan portfolios. Sarah graduated from the M&T Program in 2006. Her interests include target shooting, scotch tasting and animal rescue. Please  RSVP HERE.
